Are you preparing for engineering exams? But don’t know where to start. Well, we are here to help you. In this blog, we will guide you about various details that will take your preparation to the next level.

Engineering has been the top choice among the students to establish their career in this domain. There are lakhs of students that prepare for the engineering exams every year. But a handful of them is chosen from the prestigious engineering colleges. The reason behind, this is that the students are unaware of the syllabus and pattern of the examination.

In India, the most esteemed engineering exam is conducted by IIT (Indian Institute of Technology) popularly known as “IIT-JEE”. The exam is held in two phases i.e JEE Main and JEE Advanced. The level of this examination is quite difficult. The students that qualify both the stages get admission in B. Tech, B. Arch B.E, and B. Plan in various IITs and NITs. To get through this examination, do check out the difference in the syllabus of JEE Main and JEE Advanced.

  • Course: JEE Main is mainly conducted to provide admission into B. Tech or BE courses in various NITs & other engineering Institutions. On the other hand, students who clear JEE Advanced get admission to the IITs.
  • Examination Criteria: JEE Main exam is conducted 2 times a year by National Testing Agency and a candidate can appear for a maximum of 3 years. JEE Advanced is held once a year by IIT JAB and a candidate can appear for a maximum of 2 years.
  • Mode of examination: JEE Main Paper includes two papers: Paper 1 & Paper 2. Here, Paper 1 is conducted through CBT (Computer Based Examination) mode and the admission is for BE/ B. Tech whereas Paper 2 is conducted offline for admission in (B. Arch/ B. Planning).

JEE Advanced Examination also has two papers: Paper 1 & Paper 2. Both of them are held in online mode.

  • Pattern: JEE Mains paper takes place for 3 hours and consists of 90 questions carrying 4 marks each. Out of the total, only 75 questions need to be answered. JEE Advanced paper is for 6 hours (paper 1- 3hrs, paper 2- 3 hrs) and each question carries equal marks.
  • Language: JEE Main question paper is in English, Hindi, Malayalam Gujarati, Assamese, Odia, Bengali, Kannada, Urdu, Marathi, Tamil, Punjabi, and Telugu
  • JEE Advanced paper is in English and Hindi.
  • Syllabus: The syllabus is mostly similar except for some topics, that we will see below;
  • Physics: (JEE Main not in JEE Advanced)
  • Electronic Devices: Semiconductors; semiconductor diode: I-V characteristics; diodes as a rectifier; I-V characteristics of LED, photodiode, and oscillator, etc.
  • Communication Systems: Electromagnetic waves propagation; types of modulation, signals, transmission medium, Basics of Communication System (Block Diagram)
  • Electromagnetic Waves: Fundamentals of Electromagnetic waves and their characteristics, Electromagnetic spectrum, etc. Along with this from 2023, the topic of applications of Electromagnetic waves will also be a part of the exam.

• (Only in JEE Main )

  • Thermal Physics: Kirchoff’s law, Newton’s law of cooling, Blackbody radiation, Stefan’s Law, Absorptive and Emissive powers, Wien’s Displacement Law
  • Chemistry: Electrochemistry, Nuclear Chemistry (Only in JEE Advanced); Biomolecules and Chemistry in Everyday Life (Only in JEE Mains)
  • Mathematics: Sets, Relations and Functions, Trigonometry, Mathematical Reasoning and Statistics, and Probability.

From the above points, we hope you have got in-depth knowledge about the IIT JEE Mains and JEE Advanced exams. For more information like this, check out our website. Purchase our courses to get an edge in the examination.
